I had thought the problems were due to TMJ - jaw problems and teeth problems but saw dentist again yesterday and he didnt think they were related. Having a tooth extracted on Monday 8th as turned down root canal treatment. My teeth take in turns to hurt and I am worried that I will still have these problems and be minus a tooth.

Did see Gp and he prescribed anti virals which havent helped.

Has anyone else had similar problems, when searching for answers diabetes is often mentioned as a cause, can neuropathy affect the face? Its not painful just annoying, I've not lost muscle control or got bells palsy. Doubt if its trimenial nerve, as not got shooting pain.

any ideas?

Anna.

T2 on insulin.

There are several possibilities:
One is that the meter reading was distorted for some reason, eg some "contaminant" on the test finger (even soap with something carb-based).
One is that you ate something at lunch with more carbs.
One is that your activity level were markedly different in the afternoon.
One (possibly associated with the last point) is that for some reason your body felt it was lacking carbs so the liver released some blood sugars to compensate.

Barring this odd reading, your levels sound very good. If such a thing doesn't recur, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

General Support : diet for diabetes

    Author: TerryG
Subject: diet for diabetes
Posted: 31 August 2008 at 2:49pm

Dieter
Thank you for a second post promoting this product.

What this page says is predominantly correct. Except that diabetes can be eliminated. Only the symptoms may be eliminated. The propensity to suffer from elevated blood glucose (diabetes) never will.

The statement that by eating properly and exercising, type II diabetes can be controlled is spot on. The aim of controlling complications is clearly correct. The aim of controlling weight is correct. The idea of avoiding spikes in blood glucose is correct.

In fact these ideas are what people in this and other diabetes forums have been banging on about for a long long time (see, for example HERE)in the face of a standard NHS diet that concentrated on reducing cardiac risk but largely ignored the effect of carbohydrates on blood glucose levels.

So if anyone wants to exercise more, eat a diet that tries to match carbohydrate intake to their own body's ability to control it and lose weight, then I suggest they keep their money in their wallets; don't buy a generalised book or DVD that can only offer generalised advice and instead go to the food and diet section of the forum, read advice about how carbohydrate management, exercise and weight loss can help and ask any questions they have, to which they will get tailored answers and lots of encouragement from other diabetics who are making such an approach work for them. For free.

Joseph, if you visit the library section of this forum, back posts in its food and diet section and the link above you will find lots of helpful information on a good diet to manage diabetes. Then ask any questions arising.
